The discussions on the roles and responsibilities under the Data Protection and Digital Privacy (DPDP) bill are already in advanced stages, and the draft will very soon be placed for public consultation and stakeholder consultation, I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said.

"During the drafting of the bill, every concern was heard and taken into consideration," said Vaishnaw while addressing the media. He said similar consultations will be conducted while making the law.

Speaking further, he said India’s digital growth has democratized technology in the country. "Efforts have been ongoing for many years to develop the ecosystem for mobile and electronics components.  There was a significant demand from the industry to rationalize customs duties, and this demand has been addressed in the Budget announcement today."

“Secondly, through Digital India, every citizen today has access to technology. The common platform model aims to connect startups, institutions, academia, and users,” said the minster.

He explained that this model will expand into various segments like agriculture, healthcare and logistics. This expansion aims to democratize technology, ensuring it is not limited to a select few but accessible to every citizen.

“Overall, with a focus on electronics manufacturing, digital public infrastructure expansion and initiatives under Digital India, Make in India and Startup India, there have been several positive announcements in this regard. The long-standing issue of angel tax, particularly affecting deep tech startups due to valuation concerns, has been addressed by abolishing angel tax today. This marks a significant milestone in the Startup India program,” said Vaishnaw.
