NDTV revenue up 30% in Q1 FY25 buoyed by elections

Indian news network NDTV has recorded a revenue jump of 30% in the first quarter of FY2024-25 compared to the same period previous fiscal with the company attributing it to the Lok Sabha election programming.  

However, the Adani Group-owned company has also reported a net loss of Rs 47.4 crore during the quarter ending June 30, 2024, up from Rs 9.3 crore in the same quarter last financial year due to higher production costs and finance costs.

In its financial result for the quarter, the company’s total revenue stood at Rs 97.79 crore in Q1 FY25, up from Rs 75.09 crore in Q1 FY24.

Its total expenses stood at Rs 144.83 crore in Q1 FY25, up from Rs 82 crore in Q1 FY24.

“The (operating) revenue for the quarter increased 34% Y-O-Y driven by the Lok Sabha election programming and 44% growth in digital traffic,” it said.

 The marketing, distribution and promotional expenses of the broadcaster increased from Rs 13.43 crore in Q1 FY24, to Rs 42.18 crore in Q1 FY25. Its operating and administration expenses stood at Rs 16.5 crore in Q1 FY25, up from Rs 12.36 crore in Q1 FY24.

The finance cost of NDTV increased from Rs 28 lakh in Q1 FY24 to now Rs 3.08 crore in Q1 FY25.

The production expenses and cost of services increased four times from Rs 21 crore in Q1 FY24 to Rs 37.38 crore in Q1 FY25.

Employee benefit expenses of the company saw a jump of Rs 10 crore and stood at Rs 42.8 crore in the first quarter of FY25.
