A first of its kind participatory Women's Festival – 'We The Women'is coming to Mumbai on the 9th & 10th of December, 'We the Women' is presented by Facebook & U.N Women, and curated by journalist Barkha Dutt. This two-day Festival is open to both men and women and will be 48 hours of break-free environment that brings diverse viewpoints and personalities together under one roof. With its eclectic mix of speakers including Political Leaders, Sports personalities, Actors, Artists, Singers and thousands of men and women from various walks of life as participants. The festival seeks to build a freewheeling community that allows women to literally 'Open Doors' for themselves and each other. Themed on the idea of 'Opening Doors'; We The Women offers an inclusive space for conversation, camaraderie, networking, outreach, and a whole lot of fun. Food stalls, a Flea Market, Art curated by Parmesh Shahahni of the Godrej India Culture Lab and some bespoke music performances will be the backdrop to a weekend of subjects that matter and need our urgent attention. Speakers include Union Minister, Smriti Irani, Union Minister Harsimrat Badal, Cricket team Captain Mithali Raj, Olympic medal winner- Sakshi Malik, Corporate leader Roshni Nadar, Trailblazing Lawyer Pallavi Shroff, Hip-Hop sensation from Punjab- Ginni Mahi, actor Twinkle Khanna (on a panel with 'Padman" Arunachalam Muruganantham), Ankhi Das, Director of Public Policy at Facebook, Poonam Muttreja of the Population Foundation of India, Women soldiers of the Indian Army; a pace bowler from Kashmir, the women leading a private aerospace mission to the Moon & an 83 year old sharpshooter called 'Revolver Dadi'. Farhan Akhtar and Maati Baani are among those who will not only grace the occasion with a speech but will also perform at the Festival. Dalit hip-hop artist, Ginni Mahi will enthral the audience with her performance. Keeping the participatory spirit, entry to the festival will be absolutely free.
