Adidas fights marine plastic pollution with ‘RUN FOR THE OCEANS’

RUN FOR THE OCEANS, a campaign by adidas’, creative agency TBWA\NEBOKO, and ocean activism group Parley for the Oceans, aims to harness the power of running to fight marine plastic pollution.

RUN FOR THE OCEANS is a global running movement that uses the power of sports and the strength of groups to raise awareness about the threat of ocean plastic pollution. Activating runners all over the world through events and activities to quite literally ‘run for the oceans’. Each and every mile or km counts as a symbolic gesture – and over 10 million km’s have been recorded so far. Adidas is donating US$ 1 for every kilometer run, capped at one million US dollars, to the Parley Ocean Plastic Programme.

But there’s more.  This campaign runs through to product as well, with the UltraBOOST Parley shoe, which has an upper knit made of Parley Ocean Plastic™, a proprietary textile made from recycled plastic retrieved from coastal communities and beaches. Each pair prevents approximately 11 plastic bottles from entering the oceans.
