Mastercard drops its name from logo

Mastercard has decided to remove its name from its logo, leaving the interlocking red and yellow circles to represent the brand, according to media reports. Mastercard’s name has been there in the logo for more than 50 years. Reports suggest that the move could be an attempt by the company to underplay the word ‘card’ in the logo as new methods of payment gain prominence. The decision has placed Mastercard among companies such as Nike and Apple that prefer to use visual symbols to names in their logo. Some media reports quoted Mastercard Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Raja Rajamannar as saying that the company conducted more than 20 months of world-wide research to make sure people could identify it from the logo even without text.
