Fabindia’s Million Mask Initiative – Donates Masks worth Rs 2.75 Crores

To support the growing and urgent need for Masks in the  fight against COVID-19, Fabindia has produced and donated fabric face masks worth Rs.2.75  crore.  Close to 1.2 million (1,190,311 pieces) non-medical, double-layered, washable, re-usable fabric Masks have been distributed over the past month across parts of Delhi, Karnataka,  Maharashtra, and Bengal through the networks of Goonj and the Indo-Global Social Service  Society (IGSSS) working with the communities severely impacted by economic conditions created by the pandemic.   Working with IGSSS, the reach extended to high-risk groups like Hepatitis C, TB, and HIV+ patients, sex workers, homeless, health and sanitation workers, street-vendors, flood-affected families, in urban and rural districts of Bangalore, Bagalkote, Udupi, Raichur, Belgaum, Kodagu in the state of Karnataka, Lucknow, Gorakhpur and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, Kapurthala in Punjab and North-east Delhi, South Delhi and South-west Delhi and West Delhi.  At Fabindia, non-medical masks were produced in response to precautionary requirements in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic that has swept the world. The production also served the dual purpose of creating livelihoods within the supply base, where regular work had come to a standstill in the early days of the Lockdown called to contain the spread of the disease. The company has now donated a very significant part of its production.  Speaking about the initiative, Viney Singh, Managing Director, Fabindia, said “The Mask  Initiative, which has culminated in this giving has been a central pillar in our endeavor to keep livelihoods alive while making this simple life saving covering available to all.  Associating with Goonj and IGSSS for the distribution of the Masks has ensured that we will be able to extend our reach to communities where these are also needed. It can never be  emphasized enough that wearing masks is our shared responsibility, enabling us to protect  ourselves and others from the virus.”  Fabindia was one of the first Indian retailers to pivot its facilities and start the production of face masks and protective overalls in response to the pandemic. The company has also donated 100,000 coveralls for the use of frontline staff earlier this year.
