87% jump in FDI for broadcast sector in FY24

India’s broadcasting sector has seen 87% jump in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). According to the data from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, the FDI rose to Rs 7012 crore in the year ended March 31, 2024, compared to Rs 3745 crore in the previous fiscal year.

According to the data, Uday Shankar and James Murdoch’s Bodhi Tree Systems in Viacom 18 had the highest share of the FDI at Rs 4306 crore.

Ad agencies, including Dentsu Pacific, Havas and WPP, were among the prominent media companies that brought the investment to the country.

The second quarter of the fiscal year saw a drop in the inflow at Rs 1165 crore and to Rs 332 crore in the third quarter.  The last three months of the fiscal year saw the FDI dropping to Rs 661 crore.
